California State Fair 2019
Do you know what time of year it is? It’s July, which means it’s time to plan a trip from your single family home for rent and head on down to the California State Fair. The temperatures will be high, true, but this is an annual California tradition, and even if you just show up to check out the drone show and the fireworks, it’s sure to be a great time. But that’s not all that’s waiting for you at the fair.
There are competitions, performances, and family fun the likes of which only comes around once a year, so if you want to have a great time this summer, the California State Fair is one event you have no excuse to miss. So, if you’re up for tackling the state fair this year, we encourage you to read ahead, we’re going to be laying out all the information you’ll need to know before you get there, and what some of the highlights at the fair will be.
The One and Only California State Fair
Every year since 1854 (with the exception of those WWII years from 1942 to 1947) the California State Fair has been one of the largest and most spectacular gatherings in the whole of California. Hundreds of thousands come out to attend the 17-day festival, which typically takes place in July, and while they are there, they get to engage in a wide range of fun events which vary from the showcasing of agriculture to culinary delights, competitions, family fun activities, and beyond.
The state fair is a big hit every year, and this installment is no exception. What wonders might you experience when you head there, you might wonder? How about a new addition, for starters: the California State Fair eSports Bear Cup Tournament. This multi-day extravaganza is putting the exciting new world of competitive gaming to the fore, and providing entertainment in the form of a host of popular titles:
“The California State Fair partners with gaming behemoths, TWITCH and The Republic of Gamers, along with NRG Esports to host our first-ever Esports Competition! Competitors from around the GALAXY will go head to head in the biggest titles in gaming; Overwatch, NBA2K, Apex Legends, Super Smash Brothers, and more.”
If you choose to attend, you’ll have the opportunity to see high-level play at its finest, and rub shoulders with some of the greats in the contemporary competitive gaming scene, including Nairo, GarrettG, Nevix, The Kings Guard, and SF Shock. It’s not all new arrivals at the state fair, though, old school cool will also be on the menu, in the form of special events like the 2019 Brewfest. It is here that you’ll be able to sample some of the best when it comes to delicious California brews:
“To select this year’s honorees, our experts will begrudgingly spend 3 full days tasting well over a thousand entries in over sixty categories to bring you California’s very best!”
You’ll need tickets to attend, of course, but we can assure you it will be well worth it. Last year, they highlighted over thirty fine California breweries as the best of the best. This year will be more of the same, and you’ll have a chance to sample some of those delicious amber nectars for yourself. Beyond the beer and games? Competition will take place in the form of adrenaline-fueled horse racing and the Youth Mariachi Competition, where talented young musicians will be showing off their love and skill for this traditional Mexican artform.
Lest you think the state fair is all about competition, though, we’d like to remind you that there will be plenty of non-competitive events taking place, like the upcoming First Responders’ Appreciation Day, where those noble members of our community get the kind of recognition they truly deserve:
“As a special thank you for their hard work and bravery, active members of law enforcement, firefighters, first responder units, and Life Guards included can enjoy free Fair admission on July 25, courtesy of Vitalant. All fair goers can enjoy a day of fun celebrating first responders complete with special exhibits, interactive activities, one-day-only entertainment and much more.”
And then there’s Out at the Fair, which seeks to celebrate the diversity of the California community and welcome our LGBT+ brethren to enjoy in all the excitement that will be taking place. Everyone has a place at the fair, and that’s a good thing, because events are always better when everyone can join in together, and the concerts that will be taking place will be just that much more enjoyable with big crowds representing all of California’s diverse populations. In case you were wondering, there will be free concerts going on every night of the fair, and the lineup is one that you won’t want to miss:
July 15th — Def Leppard Tribute Band
July 16th — Clay Walker
July 17th — Marshall Tucker Band
July 18th — Petty & The Heartshakers
July 19th — Sean Kingston
